1. Supporting the largest network of smallholder farmers in Africa
To kick off the year the “in the field, for the field” way, several of our teams went straight to Kakamega, Kenya, to work alongside our partner One Acre Fund. This venture would lead to the full rollout of PaygOps as the core IT infrastructure for the social enterprise, which is enabling their Kenya programme to scale the impact and, in consequence, made possible the launch of their new brand, Tupande. As if that wasn’t enough, we released the PaygOps x One Acre Fund Series, a collection of videos and resources that ran throughout the year, to illustrate what happens when Agritech last-mile providers leverage a flexible and interoperable SaaS like PaygOps in favour of streamlining life-changing products and services for smallholder farmers. Explore the full series here.
2. Adding cutting-edge features to our SaaS to adapt to the ever-evolving needs of last-mile distributors
We kept unfolding the potential of our PaygOps platform to further address distributors’ unique needs at the last mile. In order for them to extract until the last drop of value from their business data, we launched Customised Dashboards, an advanced feature on PaygOps that allows customers to design, customise and display state-of-the-art dashboards to prioritise any set of data that matters most in their day-to-day operations. Our CTO, Benjamin David, unveiled the feature in action in a practical demo that we invite you to check out here.
3. Building on our expertise to push the industry forward
Our unstoppable Product Development Services team did it again and kept refining the Solaris Offgrid Smart Battery, an innovation set to revolutionise the energy access sector by helping manufacturers reduce the amount of e-waste generated by lithium batteries and decrease the cost of energy storage for the end user. The solution has recently been issued the Seal of Excellence by the European Commission, a recognition that acknowledges the value and timeliness of this technology. If you’re interested in knowing more about the project, make sure to read the dedicated article here.
4. Looking after our team so we can keep looking after our customers
Our company keeps growing and becoming more international than ever, with a team made up of 12 different nationalities spread across 10 countries. Therefore, our annual Team Gathering was once again the perfect opportunity for a global team like ours to reunite, work together and strengthen our human connections with colleagues in person. This time, we met in Kigali, Rwanda, the ideal scenario for each one of us to get inspired and come up with fantastic ideas that will certainly help us further adapt our solutions to our customers’ needs and amplify our impact in 2023, while having fun in the process.
5. Establishing our leadership and strengthening our partnerships in the industry
Our crew made the most of their time in Kigali, hence we also attended the GOGLA Global Off-Grid Solar Forum & Expo 2022, where we showcased our array of flexible IT Solutions, Open-Source tools and Product Development Services, and gave a glimpse of where our technology is headed. It was a great opportunity to shake hands with long-term partners, announce some exciting new ones (A2EI), and discuss ways to ensure affordable and clean energy access for all (SDG7). Not to brag, but our booth caused quite a sensation among attendees. For a complete recap of our time at the expo, don’t forget to check out this video.
6. Generating impact for 3 million people… and counting
To finish the year strong, we’re extremely proud to announce that our mission is now reaching 3 million people who are benefitting from improved technology and access to products and services across all industries (solar, agriculture, digital, water access, sanitation, transportation, etc). This is all possible thanks to the firm commitment of our teams in conjunction with our more than 40 partners in 40 countries. If you want to know more about our impact, check out this page.
Bonus: We were named one of the 100 best organisations to escape to in 2022 by Escape the City, based on our Impact ☀️, Team 🤝 , Mission 🚀, Innovation 🔬 and B-Corp 👍🏽. If you want to join us in our mission to unlock access to life-changing products and services for the Next Billion, check out our job openings.
Happy holidays on behalf of the whole Solaris Offgrid team! 🎅🏽🎁
