Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming industries worldwide. Last-mile distribution is no exception. At PaygOps, we’ve been at the forefront of integrating AI into our solutions, ensuring real, measurable benefits for our esteemed clients and partners.

Let’s explore some of the AI applications we’ve deployed and their potential to revolutionise last-mile distribution!

PaygOps’ AI Assistant: Enhancing Customer and Agent Support

One of our first AI-driven innovations is an advanced chatbot integrated directly into the PaygOps platform. Leveraging our extensive documentation, PaygOps’ AI Assistant provides instant responses to queries, reducing support wait times and allowing teams to focus on more complex issues.

By making information readily accessible, we’ve improved both training and customer support. Field agents and PaygOps users can now quickly navigate the platform, resolve common queries, and access essential functionalities—all leading to increased efficiency and user satisfaction.

AI-Powered No-Code Interfaces: Simplifying Customisation

We recognise that last-mile distributors (LMDs) have diverse operational needs, some of them with limited technical resources. That’s why we’ve developed the User Journey Editor, a no-code tool that empowers LMDs to design and customise step-by-step workflows for field operations, tailored to their business needs. Built on top of it, the Custom App Designer enables companies to build personalised mobile apps for their field agents, ensuring the exact user journeys they’ve created are available in the field.

While these tools put full control in the hands of the user, they’re enhanced by an AI assistant which can be leveraged as a smart, supportive guide throughout the process. The assistant explains, step by step, how to design a user journey or create a custom app, making it easier for users—regardless of technical background—to get started and stay on track. When building user journeys, for instance, the AI also helps in creating custom forms.

For example, a distributor wanting to collect agricultural best practices data can prompt the AI with: “Create a form with ten questions on farming practices.” In seconds, a fully customised form is generated, eliminating the need for IT specialists and significantly reducing deployment time.

Automating Data Classification and Document Verification

AI-driven automation has yielded impressive results, particularly in streamlining data classification and document verification. Our AI technology efficiently organises unstructured data during migrations, ensuring seamless, error-free integration into the PaygOps platform. This enhances onboarding processes, improves data accuracy, and boosts operational efficiency.

Additionally, in markets like Kenya, where traditional scanning solutions struggle with low-quality smartphone cameras, our AI-powered ID verification solution ensures accuracy. By cross-referencing scanned documents with government databases, we minimize human errors and reduce fraud risks, reinforcing trust in the lending process.

Credit Scoring and Risk Management: Incremental but Promising

While AI in credit scoring presents challenges due to market-specific complexities, we are making steady progress. PaygOps leverages predictive models to analyse historical data, forecast cash flows, and assess repayment behaviours. Though still evolving, these AI-driven insights help improve portfolio health and mitigate financial risks.

What’s Next?

The potential for AI in last-mile distribution extends far beyond our current use cases.

Looking ahead, we’re exploring:

  • AI-driven personalised training for sales agents.

  • Enhanced after-sales support through SMS and USSD integrations.

  • Further workflow automation to drive operational efficiency.

Our mission is clear: empower LMDs so they can focus on what they do best: serving their communities effectively and sustainably.

At PaygOps, we believe in collaboration and knowledge-sharing. As we continue innovating, we’re eager to work alongside industry leaders like the Global Distributors Collective and BOP Inc. to scale impactful AI solutions across the sector.

Stay tuned for updates as we share our journey, lessons learned, and the tangible benefits of strategic AI implementation.
